Injury on Duty Awards Review.

As a result of finalising the deal between NARPO, The Police Federation and Staffordshire Police over the injury on duty awards review, several officers affected by this have very generously made donations to NARPO as a way of congratulating the negotiating team for the result attained in their favour. These donations now total at the moment, £1500 and as a way of a thanks to Kevin Bridgewood and his team for their outstanding contribution to this deal. Staffordshire Branch Committee have donated £500 making the total £2000
It has been requested by Kevin's team that this money be donated to the Royal Marine's Fund for troops injured in Iraq
Kevin and his team will be presented with this cheque at our next branch meeting on the 21st June 2008 for them to pass on to the fund organisers.
IF in the meantime anyone else should wish to make a contribution towards this fund then any donations will be added to the total already collected.

Just a quick reminder to all those members of the Benevolent fund to ensure your next-of-kin details are up to date.

Second Narpo Holiday

Organised by Chairman Gerry Robinson, 40 members from across the County travelled to Majorca on Easter Tuesday for a two week holiday at the Hotel Pollensa Park in Peurto Pollensa, Northern Majorca.
Members travelled by coach from Stafford to Birmingham Airport where they then flew to Palma, Majorca. Twenty of the more active members spent a few days walking in the beautiful mountains on the West Coast of Majorca and a few extra walks were also arranged by Ralph Seville, Chairman of Burton sub-branch.
Blessed with warm and sunny weather with very little rain, a few members even braved the hotel swimming pool.
Brian Winstanley and his wife Margaret celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on the final night. Everyone enjoyed a "last night" dinner together bringing another superb holiday to a grand finale.

Message from the Chief Constable

"As Chief Constable I see each and every member of staff as an ambassador for Staffordshire Police and the work that we do. NARPO members also have a part to play. You've done the job, you've experienced policing daily challenges and issues. Many of these haven't changed in decades and would still strike a familiar chord.
Bureaucracy is undoubtedly one of the things you won't have missed about the job. It wastes time, de-motivates and leads to an inflexible, 'one size fits all' service. In Staffordshire, tackling bureaucracy is part of the answer to improving public trust and confidence. They are inextricably linked.
I have set out a 'contract' with my officers and Police staff which has a simple message "I'll free up your time by cutting bureaucracy, you commit to using that time to deliver quality services and trust and confidence"
Crime recording is just the start of our assault on paperwork. We are introducing a new approach, its going to be proportionate, based on the discretion and professional judgement of our officers and will properly reflect the public needs and expectations.
By using a simpler, slim line report we will generate significant time saving, an estimated 41,000 hours a year, which can be reinvested into local policing. Pilot work in the Trent Valley division is extremely encouraging. Frontline officers support the changes and feedback from the public is extremely positive.
I also hope you see the benefits of what we are trying to achieve and -as many of you continue to live in the County you served- I hope you will also watch developments with interest and be advocates for our work."
